The new MoonRay MPPT solar charge controllers are truly optimized for use on yachts and RVs. MoonRay outperforms other MPPT charge controllers. Tested in both perfect as well as ‘real-life’ weather conditions. Its performance outshines others on clouded or partial shadowing conditions.
The MoonRay is optimized for a typical installation on a boat or motorhome. Often, with a single solar panel or a couple of solar panels connected in parallel. Charging one or several 12V batteries.
Thanks to its versatility it is also possible to use many MoonRay’s together. Controlling groups of solar panels. This makes it possible to optimize each group. So you can make groups according to the ever-changing conditions on a moving platform. Thanks to the Multi Connect App it is possible to collect information from all the controllers as they were one.
*If you intend to connect your Moonray MPPT charge controller to a 24V system, note that you´ll need to use two or more solar panels connected in series.
MOONRAY IS NOT LIKE OTHER SOLAR CHARGE CONTROLLERS
Installing a solar panel system on a yacht or motorhome might be challenging. The solar panel industry mostly focuses on big fixed installations. However, SUNBEAMsystem aims is to make equipment for non-stationary vehicles and boats. Which requires the solar system setups to be much different from a home installation. One can identify five things that are essentially different in our line of business.
- Partial shadowing is much more frequent.
- Fewer or only one solar panel
- Prefer the connection of solar panels in parallel over serial
- Off-Grid charging of 12V or 24V* DC batteries, not 230V AC
- The need for power efficiency and power conservation (don’t waste energy)
- The use of high-efficiency solar cells
*If you intend to connect your Moonray MPPT charge controller to a 24V system, note that you´ll need to use two or more solar panels connected in series.
How does it work?
Above mentioned factors are the key to making a real charge controller optimized for yachts and motorhomes. And not just porting technology from a house roof installation.
MoonRay solves it all and this is how the optimization functions:
- Charging will start when the solar panel(s) reach a voltage of 0.1V above the battery voltage(sometimes <0.9V). Even with ever so little power, it will add up on the total stored energy over the day. Especially in countries with cloudy weather or with the sun at low angles.
- The energy efficiency curve is extremely flat. You could compare this with a fine-tuned combustion engine. Where you have a good pull starting at low RPMs all the way up to high RPMs. Whereas an old-style MPPT would rather be very efficient at a specific (high) RPM only. At the cost of having low or no output at lower RPMs.
- The MoonRay is a high performer even if with a non-optimized random size on the solar panel(s). In other words, choose your solar panel size/watt without limitation.
- The MoonRay will harvest more during the natural power fluctuations up and down. And is not limited to perfect angles and solar irradiation.
- MoonRay features an optimized MPPT algorithm for a lower solar panel voltage. It is also adapted for a solar panel Vmp in the range of 17 to 25 Volts. This to charge a 12V battery with a single solar panel or likewise many solar panels. (remember that parallel is the best solar panel installation on a yacht/motorhome)
On top of this, the self-consumption of 13mA (14mA for 320) is industry-leading for an MPPT solar charge controller in this size range. Ensuring a low energy waste.
MOONRAY SMART MPPT
A flat curve with a high MPPT efficiency from low to high yield, not depending on a perfect weather condition or minimum amount of solar panels connected.
competitor MPPT
Showing a typical peak, indicating the need for a minimum amount of solar panels and perfect weather conditions. Resulting in bad efficiency most of the time.

Installation Overview
- Connect to the household battery bank via a fuse.
- Connect one or several panels up to the sum of the max allowed wattage.
- For multiple panels, parallel connection is supported and optimal.
If the desired sum of wattage exceeds the max allowed on one solar charge controller. An optimized solution is to use several of the same type controllers connected to the battery bank. One solar charge controller per solar panel group. Where a group contains panels with the same solar light properties (shading & angle).
MULTI CONNECT APP
COMPREHENSIVE INITIAL CONFIGURATION
INSTANT INFORMATION UPDATES
Simultaneous connection to all SUNBEAMsystem devices onboard. No need to manually alternate to connect to different devices. It also avoids investing in a special onboard network. Optimize the stacking of several solar charge controllers. Configurable grouping of multi-devices to show them as one cluster. You will also be able to display the whole cluster as one unit. According to your personal configuration, name it as you like and display the joint data as one.
App out of focus notifications & top bar indicator
Show sum of group info instantly – no need to alternate
Configure the user interface layout and screen size
How many solar charge controllers do I need?
The sum of connected solar panel wattage decides the size.
Connect up to a sum of 160W to the MoonRay 160 and up to a sum of 320W to the MoonRay 320.
For even larger amounts of solar panels use multiple MoonRay’s and connect adjacent solar panels with similar solar/shadowing conditions to each charge controller and you will get a performance advantage.

ABOUT THE MOONRAY SERIES
What type of usage is MoonRay intended for?
MoonRay is primarily constructed for anybody with a leisure solar panel setup. Usually on a yacht or a motorhome where it is important to get the most out of the tiny space available. Check out our installation guide.
How may I use the Multi Connect to access MoonRay data?
You need the optional Bluetooth dongle connected to the network port on the MoonRay controller. Download the Free Multi Connect App from either Google Play or Apple AppStore.
What battery types are compatible with MoonRay?
The MoonRay can via the built-in screen be set to pre-configured profiles suitable for most Lead-acid batteries (Open/Sealed/Gel).
However, it is universally configurable to fit your battery manufacturer’s exact recommendations with up to 14 different variables digitally controlling the charge profile.
For advanced configurations, the remote display or Bluetooth/Multi Connect is needed. We recommend the Multi Connect which is more intuitive and also got extra pre-set recommended settings.
Can I use MOONRAY with any kind of solar panel?
Yes of course! It is the premier choice for any type of solar panel with a voltage of about 16-24V.
