Considered to be the World’s Toughest Row the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. Started in December 2019: 35 rowing boats started from the Canary Island of La Gomera. The destination was the Caribbean island of Antigua. In the way, they had 4,800 kilometers of water to cross in the boat – alone. Gabi was the only female solo rower in the race and has rowed 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean!
Committed to the Environment:
Gabi Schenkel was not only interested in sporting and mental performance. She also wants to draw attention to the urgent need to protect the oceans in the middle of the big blue. And collect donations for the committed organizations PlasticPatrol and OceanCare, because:
Water is our elixir of life. And the oceans are our vital reservoir. But humanity is dumping a plastic truck every minute into the sea. 86 million tons of plastic are already floating in our oceans. They don’t just threaten life in the water. Ultimately, all pesticides and other toxins also endanger our lives. We don’t want that!
The project name “The Swiss 1s” want to express how important the contribution of each individual is. Including that from a landlocked country like Switzerland. Protecting the oceans concerns us all!
The Boat:
To power Gabi ‘s boat: Miss Universe choose SUNBEAMsystem Solar Panels. It featured an amazing setup of 6 Tough solar panels, providing her a total of 370w. It was enough to power all her devices, such as satellite internet, cellphone, navigation devices, cameras, and more. The Flush Cable from Tough Series provided her a seamless installation. You can notice in the pictures that the installation of the solar panels has no visible wiring. As well as no junction boxes.
